Autumn of Freedom: A Tranquil Residential House by Wei Chiang Liao

A Serene Living Space Inspired by Autumn

Taichung 7th Redevelopment Zone, adjacent to the National Taichung Theater and urban green land full of humanity and natural cultivations, is where the house located. The decoration materials, with the qualities ideally presenting artistic conception autumn leaves and sunset hills, convert the serene mood of autumn to the real living space.

Wei Chiang Liao, a renowned designer, has created a residential house that captures the essence of autumn and transforms it into a tranquil living space. The project, aptly named "Autumn of Freedom," is located in the vibrant Taichung 7th Redevelopment Zone in Taiwan. Inspired by the surrounding natural beauty and the artistic concept of autumn leaves and sunset hills, Liao has crafted a unique and inviting home.

One of the main challenges faced by the designer was the abundance of natural light in the high-floor house, which often resulted in an over-illuminated space. To counter this, Liao employed a distinctive approach by using dark colors such as brown wooden veneers and floors, as well as furniture, to create a sense of calm and delicacy. This unconventional color manipulation skillfully balances the brightness of the natural light, resulting in a serene and inviting atmosphere.

The design of "Autumn of Freedom" also focuses on reconciling the calm colors and creating a harmonious space. Bronze mirrors and metal lighting fixtures are strategically placed to scatter the sunlight and neutralize its intensity, creating a tranquil indoor environment. The careful consideration of space scales and the use of materials contribute to the overall balance and serenity of the house.

With a total area of 370 square meters, the project offers both public and personal areas that cater to different needs. The public area exudes a warm and inviting ambiance, while the personal area, located on the tall floors, provides breathtaking views of the surrounding skylines, reminiscent of the Upper East Side hotels in New York.

Wei Chiang Liao collaborated with Yu-Cheng Huang and Chia-Chen Liao to bring "Autumn of Freedom" to life. Their meticulous attention to detail and expertise in interior design resulted in a home that perfectly balances style, maturity, and a sense of amusement. The use of various materials, including woods, shells, metals, and leathers, adds depth and character to the design, creating a space that is both sophisticated and inviting.

The "Autumn of Freedom" project is a testament to the designer's ability to combine artistic vision with technical expertise. By applying the contrast method to present the space measurement, Liao maximized the space scale, harmonizing stability and elegance. The result is a home that not only meets the owner's needs and desires but also showcases the designer's creativity and innovation.

Recognized for its outstanding design, "Autumn of Freedom" was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life. Wei Chiang Liao's "Autumn of Freedom" exemplifies these qualities, making it a truly remarkable residential house.
